Hello stamping friends! Today I have a tutorial for you of how I put together a sticky note holder with a pen. These make wonderful gifts for Christmas or for any other occasion. I started with a cut file purchased from the Silhouette store here. This file is compatible on either the Cameo or Portrait.
With this file you only need to cut one of everything. Here are all my pieces cut out and not folded yet as I want to add a lot of stamping. The white pieces are my stamping pieces and the brown pieces are for backing the white stamped pieces.
The long narrow rectangle is your main focal point so I started with that for my stamping. I decided I wanted to create a winter/Christmas themed one and wanted to stamp a wreath using the Christmas Wreath set. The best way to create a nice round wreath is to use a die or some other circle to lightly trace a circle onto the spot you want to build your wreath. The circle die from Fancy Labels 3 was the perfect size for this.
I used the pretty pine bough for my wreath and used two kinds of green ink, a lighter and darker ink to help create depth. After you stamp the base of the wreath you can go back in inking up only the tip of the branch to fill in any gaps.
Here are all my pieces stamped and ready to assemble. For the pine cones on the wreath I stamped them on separate paper and trimmed them out and adhered them onto the wreath. I then stamped the berry image in red ink and the sentiment is from the Poinsettias set. I inked up the sentiment selectively so that I could get the placement I wanted and eliminated the “&”. The bow and pine boughs are for the front of the holder as extra embellishment.
Here are all the pieces set on to their base pieces. The bow and pine boughs will be adhered to a scalloped section that gets folded down once you have put the base part together. Before assembling any 3D item I always put everything in place to be sure I like the finished design and to be sure I didn’t miss any pieces. It’s much easier to catch and correct mistakes before assembly than after!
And here is the finished sticky note holder! I think that even though it has a Christmas feel you could definitely leave it out all winter. The base is an accordion type fold so it stands up really well. The sticky note box and pen box are assembled separately and then adhered to each other. I like to use Scor Tape for my adhesive as it’s strong but there is no dry time.
Here it is with no pen or sticky note pad. The sticky note pad hides a bit of whatever you focal image is but not enough that it isn’t still pretty. I added some stitching to the main panel as well as the backing. For my chevron stripes and polka dots I used the Flower of the Month Asters set.
Here is a close up of the wreath. I added a few rhinestones to frame the sentiment.
Here is the scallop part I mentioned earlier that folds down. It’s a perfect spot to add a little extra something. I stamped and then colored the bow with Copics and trimmed out the pine boughs adding another rhinestone to the center of the bow. I hope you’ll try making one of these yourself! I’ve made several now and they really go together quickly and are such a pretty and useful gift. Thanks for joining me today and have a wonderful day!
