Inlaid Die Cuts
By Leah Cornelius
Hello creative friends! Today I have a tutorial for you using inlaid die cuts. This is a fun, easy technique that adds a lot of interest without adding bulk. Let’s get started!
The first thing you’ll want to do is choose what dies you want to work with. For my project I choose to use two Inspired By Stamping dies, Fancy Labels 1 and Fancy Labels 3. I started by die cutting the largest Fancy Labels 1 die and then onto that die cut I layed my double ended banner from Fancy Labels 3 on top of it to die cut directly into it. I also die cut a separate banner from Fancy Labels 3 in a different color cardstock. This will be one of the pieces that will be inlaid.
After you first round of die cutting this is what you’ll have.
I wanted to inlay another die cut so I cut my front panel for my card at 4″x 5 1/4″ and die cut the largest Fancy Labels 1 die again, centering it onto my card front.
Now you have three pieces. I think you can see how they will all fit back together like a puzzle 🙂
Like so! Now you are ready to do some stamping. The neat thing about having all the die cuts inlaid is that they are all the same height so stamping is a breeze. **TIP- do make sure that the paper or cardstock you are using is about the same thickness. If it’s not you may have more issues trying to stamp across it as a panel.**
And here is my fun summery card I made with the inlaid die cuts 🙂 This was so much fun to stamp and put together! I used the brand new Summer Fun set along with the new Chevrons set. For my sun rays I lightly drew in my lines before stamping so I had a guide and just erased when I was done stamping.
Here is a close up off all the inlaid die cuts. The enamel dots were handmade 🙂 I hope you’ll give it a try! Have a wonderful day!
